As Summer approaches and the temperatures tend to increase, we need to make sure that our pets are safe from the possible dangers that arise during the summertime of the year. It is important to be aware of the hazards that you may come across such as rattlesnake bites, fleas, heat stroke, and ticks. As you tend to spend more time outdoors with your dog, whether you are going hiking, to the beach, or park, your pet’s safety needs to first priority.

Rattlesnake Bites

Sometimes it’s not that easy to avoid rattlesnakes, especially when temperatures are rising during the hot summer months. If your pet does get bitten by a rattlesnake, you should immediately head to the nearest Vet Hospital for Emergency Care of your dog. Here are a few helpful tips to get you and your pet prepared in case of emergency:

Do Attend a Rattlesnake Avoidance Training Classes

Put up Rattlesnake Fence in your yard, especially if you live in areas where they are prominent. Get your pet the Rattlesnake Vaccine, this will help you to buy some time to reach your local vet after your pet has been bitten. Don’t let your pets play around in the bushes, especially during summers, train them to follow the designated path.

Heatstroke

Always Remember cats and dogs are not able to cool off as humans can. They are wearing a thick fur coat throughout the year, no matter what the temperature is, and this can cause a pet to get a heatstroke. Here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind when taking your pet out in the heat:

NEVER leave your pets inside the car in any case, since temperatures inside a vehicle are far higher than it is outside.

Take your dog for a walk before 9 am and after 6 pm, as the temperatures are cooler during that time.

Make sure to keep your pets well hydrated and keep them away from direct sunlight for long periods of time during summers.

Also, keep away your pets away from surfaces such as cement and asphalt because our pets do not have thick protection on their paws which can protect them from getting the heat. We recommend you purchase a pair of booties to protect the pet feet!

Fleas And Ticks

These pests happen to be around throughout the year, but they are more prominent during the summer months. It is important to make sure that your pet is protected from fleas and ticks by giving them the monthly medication. Once a month give your pets flea and tick chewable tablets! Here are a few helpful tips to make sure your pets are protected from these pests:

Make sure to give/apply flea and tick medication every month.

Check your pet daily for fleas and ticks, especially if they are running through the bushes.

If your pet does get fleas, it is recommended to give them a flea bath and make sure to clean all surfaces in the house.

Summer is upon us and we need to be aware of the risks that are coming with it.
