Vaccinate your Cat to Protect it!

It is recommended that the vaccination schedule for cats is started when kittens are 6-8 weeks old. They need to be vaccinated until they are 16 weeks old. This is followed up with booster doses after one year. These vaccine shots are administered every 3 to 4 weeks. Adult cats need them less often, usually every year or every 3 years, depending on how long the effect of the vaccine is designed to last and how strong the immune system of the cat is.

The Shots Cats Need:

• Certain shots are mandatorily administered to all cats to protect them from –

  2. Feline Coronavirus
  3. Feline distemper or Panleukopenia
  4. Feline Calicivirus
  5. Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis
  The shots for the last three diseases are often administered together in a combined single shot called the “distemper shot”. Your cat may need other shots depending on the diseases that are common in the area you live in and how long your cat spends outdoors. Feline Leukaemia and Bordetella are the two common diseases that affect cats when they go out a lot and mingle with other cats.
  • Feline Leukaemia: does not have a cure; therefore, it is necessary to get your cat vaccinated if they go out a lot. It is a serious viral infection that spreads through various bodily fluids such as blood, saliva, urine, and milk.
  • Bordetella: is not a common infection any longer but if your cat goes to the groomer or stays at kennels too often, the veterinarian might administer a shot.
  You might think that your cat is protected from all sorts of diseases because it is home-bound but it is still mandatory to get them vaccinated. Some diseases are airborne and can come in through windows and with visitors and affect your cat so, it is better to get them vaccinated.
